Intralobar Pulmonary Sequestration Masquerading as Lung Abscess: A Rare Paediatric Presentation
نویسنده
چکیده
Pulmonary sequestration refers to lack of normal airway connection and aberrant vascular supply, and it may be either intralobar or extralobar. Bronchial atresia involving the lower lobes, especially the left lower lobe, is often associated with aberrant systemic arterial connection, forming an “intralobar sequestration” in which a region of parenchyma is functionally isolated from the remainder of the lung.1 Pulmonary sequestration is an uncommon condition that accounts for 0.15-6.4% of all pulmonary malformations and is typically diagnosed in childhood.2 We present a rare case of intralobar pulmonary sequestration in a 25 months old female involving the right lower lobe with secondary infection.

Intralobar pulmonary sequestration presenting as a psoas abscess.
Intralobar pulmonary sequestration is a relatively rare congenital anomaly. The commonest clinical presentation is with chronic cough, expectoration and recurrent attacks of pneumonia. An unusual presentation with a psoas abscess is reported.
متن کاملA Sequestrated Lung Presenting as Lung Abscess- A Rare Case
Introduction: Intralobar pulmonary sequestration [ILS] is overall the most common form of Bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS) commonly presenting as consolidation in the lower lung lobes. Methods: A young male (23 years) presented with hemoptysis and a large cavity with air fluid level in the left lower lung lobe for 6-7 years. Computed Tomography of chest and bronchoscopy were inconclusive an...
متن کاملPort-Access Thoracoscopic Anatomical Segmentectomy for Pediatric Intralobar Pulmonary Sequestration
This report describes successful port-access thoracoscopic anatomical left lateral and posterior basal (S9 + 10) lung segmentectomy performed for intralobar pulmonary sequestration (ILPS) in a 5-year-old girl with recurrent pneumonia. Computed tomography revealed a multilocular lung abscess and an anomalous artery arising from the left gastric artery supplying the affected segment. After diagno...
متن کاملIntralobar pulmonary sequestration displayed as localized emphysema on computed tomography image
BACKGROUND Pulmonary sequestration is a relatively rare condition in which a systemic artery supplies blood to an abnormal lung tissue and the normal connection with the bronchial tree is absent. It can be displayed as various signs on the computed tomography image, but emphysema is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION We describe the case of a 35-year-old man with intralobar pulmonary sequestra...
متن کاملMassive Hemoptysis in a Case of Intralobar Pulmonary Sequestration Associated with Pulmonary Hypoplasia and Meandering Right Pulmonary Vein: Diagnosis and Management
Pulmonary sequestration is a congenital malformation characterized by focal area of dysplastic lung tissue that lacks normal communication with tracheobronchial tree and receives blood supply from systemic arteries. Surgical resection has been the conventional method of treatment of pulmonary sequestration. In recent years transarterial embolization of the anomalous systemic arteries has emerge...
